I recently taught a creative movement class to 250 elementary school students. At one point, they paired up to make duets of contrasting shapes. One boy was left alone, so I partnered with him. He was focused and thoughtful as we quietly took turns making shapes together. At the end of the exercise, I thanked him for being a wonderful partner, told him he did a great job and moved on to our next movement study. When class was over, this young boy came over to me, looked up and asked, “Did I really do a good job?” I hugged him and said, “Yes! You were awesome! You did a great job!”
So when I talk about making the world a better place, this is what I mean. When I talk about contributing to our community, this is what I mean. When I tell you that dance can change people’s lives, this is what I mean.
This is just one story from the 10,000 youth we’ve served since I founded this dance company.
We’re going for 10,000 more.
