making dances

One dancer shows us a movement phrase. We laugh at the nickname another dancer gives to a variation on the same phrase. We see how those movement phrases are put together and transformed to make a dance. We hear about the happy accidents that send a dance spinning into a wonderful direction its creator never intended. We see the close camaraderie of dancers and experience how music gives a new dimension to the movement. We're participating in Making Dances, the company's open rehearsal that invites the audience to experience a shared creative process. We leave smiling and invigorated because we've laughed and learned and experienced creativity first hand.

In preparation for our annual concert, the company hosts a free open rehearsal at the intimate space of Café Dance, providing an informative and entertaining glimpse into the process of making dances. A casual atmosphere, honest answers and plenty of banter make this one-hour sneak preview an audience favorite.
